Strawberry Clafoutis

A classic French dessert made with fresh strawberries, sugar, and eggs, baked in a large dish and typically served warm, topped with powdered sugar.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for topping

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the sliced strawberries to the dry ingredients and toss to combine.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients over the strawberry mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Sprinkle the additional granulated sugar over the top of the clafoutis.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the clafoutis is golden brown and set.

Notes

Let the clafoutis cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm. You can also serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
