Ingredients

  • 4 tilapia fillets (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • lemon wedges, for serving

Equipment

  • baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • paper towels

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. Pat tilapia fillets dry with paper towels and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour the marinade evenly over the fillets, ensuring each piece is coated. Let sit for 10–15 minutes while oven finishes preheating.
  5. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork (internal temperature 145°F).
  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley and red pepper flakes if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite sides such as rice, roasted vegetables, or salad.

Notes

Don’t overcook: Tilapia cooks quickly. Remove from heat as soon as it flakes easily with a fork (internal temp 145°F).
Use fresh lemon: Fresh juice and zest provide the best flavor.
Garlic tip: Mince finely and avoid high heat to prevent burning.
Pat dry: Always pat fish dry before cooking for better texture.
Optional add-ins: Fresh parsley, dill, red pepper flakes, or grated Parmesan for extra flavor.
