Ingredients

  • 2 packages chocolate instant pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 container Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 package chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreos), crushed
  • 1 package gummy worms
  • 1 bag chocolate Easter eggs (for decorating)

Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • hand mixer (or stand mixer)
  • rubber spatula
  • 9x13-inch casserole dish
  • food processor or zip-top bag and rolling pin For crushing cookies into crumbs.

Method

  1. Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs to create the “dirt.” Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the chocolate instant pudding mix and cold milk until thickened. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the powdered sugar.
  4. Fold the thawed whipped topping (Cool Whip) into the cream cheese mixture until light and fluffy.
  5. Gently fold the prepared chocolate pudding into the creamy whipped mixture until evenly combined.
  6. Assemble the casserole by spreading half the crushed cookie “dirt” in the bottom of a dish, then add the creamy filling, and finish with the remaining cookie crumbs on top.
  7. Refrigerate at least 4 hours (or overnight). Decorate with gummy worms and chocolate Easter eggs just before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead: This dessert tastes even better after chilling overnight. Refrigerate at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) before serving.
Storage: Cover tightly and store in the fridge up to 5 days. Keep away from strong-smelling foods (the creamy layer can absorb odors). Don’t leave out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
Decorating tip: Add gummy worms and candy toppings right before serving for the best look.
