Easy beef and noodles made with tender ground beef, egg noodles, and a rich, savory gravy-style sauce all in one skillet.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups uncooked egg noodles

1 pound lean ground beef or 2 pounds beef chuck roast, cut into chunks

1 medium yellow onion, chopped

23 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning

Kosher salt, to taste

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1/2 cup heavy cream (optional, for richness)

2 tablespoons butter or olive oil

Instructions

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to package directions, 6–8 minutes. Drain and set aside without rinsing.

2. While the noodles cook, heat the butter or oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

3. Add the ground beef or beef chunks and cook, breaking up the meat, until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes for ground beef or 8–10 minutes for chunks.

4. Stir in the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

5. Reduce heat to medium and add the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme or Italian seasoning. Cook 1 minute, stirring, until fragrant.

6. Sprinkle the flour evenly over the beef mixture and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes to form a paste and cook off the raw flour taste.

7. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring and scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan until the flour is fully dissolved.

8. Simmer the sauce for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to a gravy-like consistency.

9. Stir in the heavy cream, if using, and adjust the thickness with a splash of extra broth or water if needed.

10. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss until they are well coated in the sauce.

11. Season to taste with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

12. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley or a dollop of sour cream if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, use beef broth with a splash of soy sauce in place of some of the salt.

Substitute wide egg noodles with your favorite short pasta if needed and adjust cooking time.

This Easy Beef and Noodles recipe reheats well; add a splash of broth or cream when warming leftovers to loosen the sauce.
