This Dutch Apple Pie Recipe features tender spiced apples, a buttery streusel topping, and a flaky crust for the coziest dessert of the season.
1 single pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
8 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For Streusel Topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, or substitute with Braeburn or Honeycrisp apples for variety.
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Fit the crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim and flute edges.
2. In a bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, sugars, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let sit 10 minutes.
3. Make streusel by combining dry ingredients and cutting in cold butter until crumbly.
4. Spoon apples into crust, spread evenly.
5. Top with streusel.
6. Bake 50–55 minutes, until topping is golden and filling bubbles. Shield crust edges if browning too quickly.
7. Cool at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Store in the fridge for up to 4 days. Freeze slices up to 3 months. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 10 minutes or microwave briefly.
