Golden and crispy homemade mozzarella sticks with gooey melted cheese inside—perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection!
16 mozzarella string cheese sticks (whole milk preferred)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons milk
2 cups panko breadcrumbs (or Italian-style bread crumbs)
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
Vegetable or canola oil for frying
1 cup marinara sauce, for dipping
1. Slice each cheese stick in half.
2. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs and milk, and one with breadcrumb mixture (panko, parsley, garlic powder, basil, salt).
3. Coat cheese sticks in flour, dip in egg, then roll in breadcrumbs. Repeat egg and breadcrumb steps for a double coating.
4. Place coated sticks on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes minimum (up to 2 hours).
5. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F.
6. Fry sticks in small batches for about 1 minute, turning once, until golden.
7. Remove with slotted spoon, drain on paper towels, and season lightly with salt.
8. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days. Reheat in oven or air fryer at 400°F for 4–6 minutes.
Freeze uncooked, breaded sticks for up to 2 months. Fry straight from frozen, adding 30 seconds to cooking time.
Avoid microwaving to retain crispiness.
